Believe it or not, you’re in training. You’re probably thinking what is this girl talking about? Hold on, let me explain. You’re in training to become stronger and filled with purpose.
Your purpose in life is to find your purpose and give your whole heart and soul to it. ~ Gautama Buddha
A lot of us walk around day-to-day wondering why are we here; asking ourselves what is our purpose? We’re all here to do something. We all have a purpose, but what is it? At one time I didn’t believe that I too had a purpose. God has a purpose for each and every one of us. I wanted to know what did God want with me? I didn’t feel like I was “purpose” material. I thought I was too broken; like I had too many issues to help anyone. It seems that I was wrong. As I got older, I knew more and more that He does have a plan and a purpose for me. He has a purpose for you too.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. ~ Jeremiah 29:11 New International Version (NIV)
You’re probably wondering what is your purpose. What is it that you are supposed to be doing in your life? Not quite sure what your purpose is? Well, your life has you training for your purpose. What you have gone through is training you to share your experiences with others who are going through the same thing. Make your mess your message.
Now it’s your turn. Let’s start defining what your purpose is. Below are questions to help you start discovering your passions and defining your purpose. These are just a few questions to get you started. Answer these questions as honestly as you can.
- What are you good at doing?
- What are your strengths?
- What are your weaknesses?
- What is your favorite thing to do? Or your favorite hobby? Why?
- What would you do if money was no object? Why?
- Would you pursue a different line of work if you were given an opportunity to do so? If so, what would you choose and why?
- What makes you happy?
- What do you daydream about?
“If you have a strong purpose in life, you don’t have to be pushed. Your passion will drive you there.” ~ Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart
Okay! You’ve answered the questions, what stands out to you? What do you see? Your answers should give you a direction to start. Honesty here is key and you should now have a better idea of what it is that you should be doing. The next step now is to set some goals and start taking steps moving you toward your passions / purpose. How do you to that? Make your goals small so you don’t get too overwhelmed in your process.
Additionally, work on your goals every day. Remember that each step counts; doesn’t matter if it’s big or small. Take one goal at a time and work on it until you are able to complete it. Then take the next goal and do the same thing. Should you get stuck along the way, take a break and come back and revisit what you need to get done. Try to work on your goals every day. It won’t be easy, and you will have some hard days. In any event, you will need your perseverance to keep moving forward. You can do this. It’s time to get to work.
What God intended for you goes far beyond anything you can imagine. ~ Oprah Winfrey
