So, what is your dream? What is it that you are wanting to accomplish? What goals do you have that you want to work on? Whatever it is, this is a good time as any to spring into action.
Let’s chat for a minute about springing into action? If you have a dream that you want to pursue, please know that it won’t come to you and fall in your lap. Even to win the lottery you have to buy a ticket.
Imagine your life right now. What do you see? Are you happy with where you are? If you are, I guess no action needs to be taken on your part. You’re happy with being right where you are. There are some people like this….CONTENT. Not me, I want more out of my life and I assume you to do or you wouldn’t be reading this.
It’s time to step up and make a plan. Yes, a plan. If you’ve been winging it alt this time, how is that working for you? Before I had a plan, I was one of those people all over the place. I knew what I wanted, but had no plan on how I was going to achieve it. I really believed that having no plan in place was a complete waste of time. BOY, WAS I WRONG.
Having a plan is like a your personalized road map to get you from where you ready to leave from to where you want to go. So, are you ready to spring into action?
If not, what’s holding you back? There could be all sorts of reasons why you can’t (or don’t) want to get started on your dream. Could you be making excuses? A lot of times we let things get in the way of our dream. You’ll be amazed on what you can work though if you just try.
Let’s do this exercise and see what you come up with.
First, imagine how your life would be if you reached your dream. What do you see? If you have a journal or piece of paper, write it down in detail. This would be your ideal life. The life you’ve always dreamed of? Don’t get too ahead of yourself. I’ve had clients get stuck on this exercise alone. It’s easy to dream. It’s a little harder writing what you want on paper. Nonetheless, just write down what your new life looks like. What does a typical day look like for you? Be as detailed as possible. When you get discouraged, this is where you want to come back to.
Once you do that, write down the steps you believe you need to take to get there. Just write. Don’t correct it.
Now, let’s break each step you’ve written down into smaller steps. For example, if you’re dream is to someday own your own business, what steps do you need to take to get there? After you write down your steps, let’s prioritize and put dates on when to have that task completed.
Consider finding someone to help you be accountable to your plan. Find someone that you can trust with your dream. If you share with a friend or relative, can you count on them to support you when you want to quit? Don’t share your dream with everyone. Not everyone is going to be excited for you. Remember, not everyone is going where you’re going.
