I love me some LL Cool J. That man can rock it!! Ladies, you know what I’m talking about…those lips! Whoo! Can I get an Amen? I’m just sayin. LOL.
Back in the day, he had a song called Mama Said Knock You Out. I thought it was appropriate for this post. I haven’t blogged in a minute… okay a while and now it’s time for me to come out.
Here’s what’s happening. I’ve been in the process of rebuilding my business for quite some time. This has been a epic roller coaster ride full of excitement, nervousness, and also that big “F” word….FEAR.
Yes, FEAR seems to be rearing it’s ugly head again in the pursuit of my dream. And on top of that, I’m entertaining it. Yeah, NOT good. But it happens; to all of us. In order for us to get to where we are going, we will experience fear sometimes. If you don’t have fear, then you may not be challenging yourself enough.
2 Timothy 1:7 of the American King James Version of the Bible states that “For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” God doesn’t want us living in fear. He gave us the power to overcome it. This should give you HOPE. I know it does for me.
Growing into who we desire to be isn’t always a pleasant ride. There will be bumps, dips, and/or detours along the way. This usually happens when you’re in the pursuit of your dream. All kind of fears will show up. You may have met them; the Fear of failing, the fear of succeeding, the fear of rejection, or my personal favorite, the fear of what others think. I’m sure there are more, but let’s stick with the short list.
Look, fear is going to come. The way you handle that fear will make all the difference. You can either give in to it or hit it dead on. There will be people that won’t be for you. This was a HARD lesson that I needed to learn and understand. Remember, those people not going where you’re going.
If we give into fear, then we won’t be achieving our dreams any time soon. FEAR will be dictating our every thought and move. Do you really want to be held hostage by FEAR? Yeah, I don’t either. The trick here is to not let it psyche you out. It’s easy to fall into the fear trap and just give up and give in to it.
You were made for a purpose. I am made for a purpose. We need to look fear dead in the face and tell it to move the heck out of the way. We have work to do. We don’t have time to entertain fear. Tell it to go to someone else who is willing and able to play with it. We don’t have time for that here.
Philippians 4:13 of The New Living Translation (NLT) of the Bible says “For I can do everything through Christ,[a] who gives me strength.” With God we can do everything for He is by our side. What is it that you need to do, but you’re too scared to do it? I’ve found that if we take things one step at a time, and pray along the way, then it’s easier to accomplish.
Can I be blunt for a minute? This is for me as much as it is for you. DO IT AFRAID. That’s what I’m doing. DOING IT AFRAID. If you’ve been comfortable for while (I know I have), then it’s time to shake it up a little bit. Your dream is not going to come to you. This is reality. Get over that one. You’re going to have to take the steps to start building your dream. Get started today. Take it one step at a time. I know I am. I do not want to be in this same position when 2017 comes around. It’s time I deal with this thing called FEAR head on and DO IT AFRAID.
What about you?
Until Next Time…
