It’s finally 2014. I can honestly admit that I’ve been waiting anxiously (and excitedly) for this new year to start. 2013 was a challenging and tough year for me on a business and personal level. However, there were many lessons that I’ve learned. Especially when it comes to pursuing my dreams.
There were many times where I wanted to quit. I got to a point to where I lost confidence in myself. I took some time off to allow myself time to relax and come up with a new plan to tackle this amazing opportunity that I have been blessed with. My mind, body, and soul needed to rest. In the process of reevaluating my strategy, I had to remember my ‘why‘. Why was I doing this? What was my main reason for pursuing this dream of mine?
My ‘why’ is now 17 years old and will soon be off to college. My daughter sat me down and told me what an inspiration I was to her. That moved me to tears. In fact, she is my inspiration. With her words, she has gotten me inspired about my own dreams and goals for myself and my life. She is my awesome reason for continuing this amazing entrepreneurial journey that I have embarked on over a year ago.
Being a single mom hasn’t always been easy, and I wouldn’t change anything about it. I’ve learned more about myself; more about my strengths and my weaknesses. I have grown in ways that I hadn’t quite imagined before. I am a new person. I am thankful for all the challenges that I have faced in my life, especially my business. Yes, there were times where I felt like I wanted to quit. But, I can’t. My ‘why‘ is too great to let down.
This year my goals are to keep pushing myself to the next level. Continue to be the best role model, parent, and coach, I can be. Each day brings new challenges and opportunities of it’s own. It’s how I respond to those challenges that make the difference.
I share my story to you to show you that I am indeed human and that I am not perfect. I also share my story to let you know that you are not alone in your journey towards your goals and dreams. If this sounds like you in any way, do not be embarrassed about where you are. This happens more than you think it does. It’s how you decide to respond to your challenges that will make all the difference.
If you don’t know why you are pursuing your goals and dreams, then I suggest you take some time to think about it carefully. Because when the time comes when you feel like quitting or giving up (and yes it will happen), you’re going to need to remember your ‘why‘ so you can keep moving forward on your path towards your dreams.
What are your goals for this new year? What dreams do you have that you want to pursue? What fears do you have? I would love to hear them. Please share below.
Happy New Year and a very blessed and prosperous 2014 to all of you.
