This may seem like a sensitive subject to some, but this topic I feel is necessary to talk about. Prayer. Prayer is helpful both life and in your business. Being able to connect with God can be a satisfying experience. When things go wrong, as they often do, prayer is the answer. When all else fails, pray.
Now, before we get too deep with this discussion, let’s start with the basics. So, what is prayer? Prayer is a direct line of communication between you and God. That conversation can be short or long. Either way, the conversation you have with Him is effective. Praying to God is like having a conversation with a friend. He’s real easy to talk to, even if you’re mad, upset, or happy.
Some people, myself included, believed that prayer was a complicated thing. I used to think you had to know the scriptures in the Bible in order to talk to God. Often I would make up excuses so I didn’t have to talk to God. Since I believed that prayer was a hard thing to do, in order for me to be good at it, I would have to constantly practice. This isn’t true. I pray to God when things are good and when things are bad. Most of all, I pray to God when I need some peace. My conversations with him are informal. God knows my heart and when you go to him, he will know yours too.
If the only prayer you said was thank you, that would be enough. ~ Meister Eckhart
If you have never prayed before, that’s okay. It’s always good to try something new. Start by showing gratitude for all the things in your life. Just say, “Thank you, God.” That in itself is a prayer. When you feel more comfortable, just start talking to Him. Tell him about your day. If someone or something hurt you, take that hurt and pain to God.
Now, keep in mind, just because you prayed to God for something, does not mean it will happen immediately. Matter of fact, there’s a possibility that it may not happen at all. Sometimes we pray for things that we think we want but turns out to not be good for us at all. God always knows what’s best for us. Have faith that His best is what he’ll give to you. Sometimes, things in your life will not always turn out the way you want them to. I speak from experience on that. But, I have found that when I’ve done all I can do, my next step is to pray.
Some will tell you to pray first. I do agree with that. I admit, I don’t always do that. That’s my human flaw. I seem to think at times that I can fix everything. Not necessarily. With God, I can do anything. Doing it on my own has often led to a bigger mess.
God, grant me strength to accept those things I cannot change. ~ Dan Brown, Angels & Demons
There were times that I cried so much. Single mommyhood is/was not easy. Though I did have some support, most of the time I was doing it all on my own. The weight of it all is so heavy. I couldn’t carry it by myself. It doesn’t hurt to believe in something other than yourself. Something that is bigger than you. Being able to place your trust in something higher seems to bring a sense of peace. It also brings hope. When all else fails, pray. Prayer can open doors that you may not be able to do on your own.
Prayer has helped me through some challenging times. The situation was always there. However, prayer helped me to see things differently and sometimes helped me to do some things differently too. Prayer is a magnificent tool that will help you get through your circumstances. It may not take the situation away, but it will give you strength and guidance to get through it.
The one thing that prayer is not, is a quick fix or a magic pill to all things. Let me explain. When you pray, you are also building your relationship with God. Yes, He does desire a relationship with all of us. If prayer is not something you want to try or do, that’s okay. All the things I discussed in this article, are merely suggestions. It up to you to decide which action you want to take.
But the very fact that this world is so challenging is exactly why you sometimes must reach out of its jurisdiction for help, appealing to a higher authority in order to find your comfort. ~ Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love
When you’re hurting, pray. If you feel confused or lost, pray. Prayer can change things. Prayer can also change you. When all else fails, pray.
