We all have a story to tell. What’s your story?
When writing the story of your life, don’t let anyone else hold the pen.
~ Harley Davidson
We’ve all been writing our story since we’ve been born. There are some things we remember; things that bought us joy, laughter, and happiness. Then, there are the other stories that we don’t want to include for fear of shame, embarrassment, or we just don’t want to remember. Those are the experiences that hurt us, whether physically or emotionally. Those same stories that made us cry and wish it never happened. And finally, there are those stories that we wish we could eliminate from our book altogether. I can tell you that I personally have tried to forget that some of my stories never happened. I acted like it didn’t exist. I’m here to tell you, that’s not possible. We are not able to eliminate experiences from our lives, but we are able to grow from them. Those things will forever be written in our book whether we choose to remember it or not.
Sometimes life takes us places we never expected to go. And in those places, God writes a story we never thought would be ours. ~ Renee Swope
Renee Swopes’ quote is true. Life does take us places that we never expected to go. I was 16 years old when I was assaulted. This was definitely one of the places I never expected or didn’t want to go. I believed that since that happened to me, I was forever tainted to someone else. I believed that I wouldn’t be accepted by someone, especially by a man who could love me the way I wanted and needed to be.
For years, I wondered why did it happen. There was no answer that was satisfactory for me as to why this horrific experience happened. For whatever reason, it’s part of my story whether I want it to be or not. Trust me, there are days that I wish it wasn’t. It took me years to get through that pain. The pain still comes out from time to time, but it is bearable now when before it wasn’t.
We all have a story to share. Again I ask you, what’s your story? No one else has your story. Only you. The experiences may look similar to someone else’s, but I guarantee you, the stories are not the same. You will tell your story differently from someone else.
God does write stories that we never thought would be ours. He takes our mess and helps us to create a beautiful message. Since I’ve been sharing my story, I’ve discovered that my experience helped someone else. That’s a good feeling to have. My mess is now my message. Your experiences will help someone else. Don’t knock the stories you have to tell. Someone out there is waiting to hear from you. Write your story, then share it.
As my quote states above, when writing the story of your life, don’t let anyone else hold the pen. It’s yours. Write it the way you need for it to be told. After all, it is your story.
